MOCHI THE CAT COIN

From Character to Crypto: Designing a Web3 Ecosystem

OVERVIEW They needed a designer who understood Web3 culture, cute character-driven brands, and how to make something feel credible and community-first at the same time. I designed the full brand website and illustrated social media assets for one of Base chain's most recognized community tokens.

THE PROJECT Mochi is named after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong's pet cat, pairing an irresistible character with the cultural weight of Base chain and Coinbase's mission to bring a billion people onchain. The design had to be cute enough to attract a mainstream audience and credible enough for serious crypto participants.

Website Design

  • Designed the brand website for the Mochi ecosystem

  • Created a visual system spanning the token, NFT collection, token store, swap interface, and multiple utilities

  • Balanced playful character-driven aesthetics with serious DeFi product credibility

  • Collaborated with a developer who handled all front-end implementation

Social Media Illustration

  • Illustrated assets for social media

  • Created content for a community with 3B Giphy views and 81K Instagram followers

THE ECOSYSTEM

  • $MOCHI Token — tradeable on Uniswap, MEXC, Coinbase Wallet

  • Mochimons NFTs — 3,333 cute cat NFTs on Base

  • Mochi Token Store — buy any token on Base in under 30 seconds

  • Tamamochi — upcoming onchain pet game

  • Mochindise — IRL merchandise line

THE OUTCOME

  • 3 Billion Giphy views

  • 81K Instagram followers

  • 29K Twitter followers

  • 242M social views

  • Received a Coinbase Grant during Onchain Summer 2023

  • Listed on Uniswap, MEXC, Coinbase Wallet, CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko and more

“Mochi proved that character design isn't just cute, it's a growth strategy. Great design brought a mainstream audience into Web3 without them even realizing it.”
